Summary

Passive room cooling is examined using a solar chimney coupled with a buried earth-to-air heat exchanger (Canadian well), through laboratory tests and simulations at several radiation levels. Chimney airflow and overall performance rise with solar intensity as the absorber heats up, the buried pipe lowers room temperature, and a tube diameter of 0.04 m gave the best results.
