Summary

Full-scale tests on a sunny summer day examine a building solar chimney coupled to an earth–air heat exchanger, with chimney buoyancy pulling air through a buried pipe cooled by the surrounding soil. Daytime airflow peaked at about 252 m3/h, the building's thermal mass kept ventilation going around the clock, and air leaving the pipe was up to 12.5 °C cooler than at the inlet.
