Summary
Three simplified calculation methods for predicting per-floor airflow through a solar chimney serving several storeys are compared with numerical simulation. A bifurcation-hypothesis method fits buildings of one or two floors, while empirical flow equations work better for taller ones. Widening the cavity and raising the stack boost ventilation most, and chimney geometry matters more than solar radiation intensity.
