Summary

A roof-top solar chimney with a heat-storing black south wall and glazed faces is modelled in EnergyPlus for a Mediterranean house, where it drives night-time natural ventilation for cooling. Chimney cross-section, height and wall storage capacity are varied to find the best design, whose seasonal energy benefit is then assessed with and without an air-conditioning system.
