Summary
Simulations of coupled heat and moisture transport examine a passive wall in which buoyant chimney airflow sweeps over a capillary-wetted porous layer, so evaporation cools the building without electricity. Near midday on a clear day the inner wall face can sit roughly 3.3 K below outdoor air, and performance is highly sensitive to the porous material, its porosity and depth, the air gap size and the glazed fraction of the facade.
