Summary
A glazed solar chimney and an ordinary chimney were built side by side in Porto and monitored to compare how well each drives natural ventilation in buildings. A purpose-built thermal model that includes wind effects was also developed; it matched the measurements closely, and the glazed design delivered a markedly higher airflow rate than the conventional one.
