Summary

Experimental and numerical work on a solar chimney coupled with an earth-to-air heat exchanger yields a ventilation-rate correlation, then applied in TRNSYS to a two-storey Egyptian house. With fans added to the passive system, summer indoor temperatures fall about 9 °C below ambient, and the system pays for itself in roughly 5.4 years.
