Summary
Numerical model of the Manzanares (Spain) prototype solar chimney power plant, using a Boussinesq treatment of buoyancy, discrete-ordinate radiation and the ground beneath the collector as a fixed heat source. Results agree roughly with the prototype measurements and show pressure below ambient throughout the plant, with collector temperature rise and collector–chimney pressure difference both growing as solar irradiance increases.
