Summary
A simple mathematical model is used to assess a solar chimney power plant on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, where strong radiation, cold air and salt lakes usable for heat storage favour output. Such a plant could deliver about twice the power of one at the same latitude elsewhere, and covering a tenth to a fifth of the plateau could supply about 11–21% of China's 2008 energy use.
