Summary
Three-dimensional simulations of a solar chimney power plant, including radiation, solar loading and an actual turbine geometry, are used to compare a simplified fan model with the real turbine and to explore speed-based power regulation. The fan model suffices for estimating pressure drop and updraft velocity, while hourly sun angle and shading must be accounted for in annual performance and cost predictions.
