Summary
A commercial CFD code with a finite-volume scheme is used to model two-dimensional turbulent natural convection in a solar chimney that provides evaporative cooling and ventilation for buildings in the hot, dry climate of Yazd, Iran. Under local conditions the best channel width is 0.3–0.4 m, and the chimney gives an average cooling effect of roughly 800 W/m².
