Summary
A three-dimensional steady Navier–Stokes model treating air as compressible is developed for a solar chimney and checked against earlier one-dimensional simulations of a proposed 1500 m tower 160 m across. Unlike Boussinesq and full-buoyancy approaches, which neglect enthalpy loss and fix density, the compressible model is shown to avoid the large errors those simplifications produce in commercial CFD codes.
