Summary

Transient numerical model of a humidification–dehumidification desalination unit in Basra, where a solar still humidifies air, a buried pipe cools it so moisture condenses, and a solar chimney draws the flow by natural draft. Averaged over the year, the combined system delivers roughly 207 kg of freshwater daily at about 0.028 $/kg; faster airflow favours condensation in the pipe over the still.
