Summary
Three small-scale comparison rigs tested outdoors show how the depth of the seawater layer affects a combined solar chimney and desalination unit. Deeper water adds thermal inertia, lowering water temperature and freshwater yield, while shallow layers make the heated air temperature fluctuate more; a sufficient depth keeps the air warmer than ambient, suggesting an optimum depth exists.
