Summary

Using a purpose-built indoor rig that keeps weather effects out, the authors measured how collector slope, chimney height and collector area affect heat transfer and airflow in a solar chimney. Secondary flows under the collector turn out to waste most of the heat, so under 9% of the input energy reaches the chimney. Collector angle governs these flows, and enlarging the collector reduces efficiency.
