Summary
A small roof-top solar chimney is optimised through CFD and a purpose-built test model. Raising heat flux and inclination angle improves ventilation, while overly wide air gaps cause reverse flow and cut mass flow. Measured flow, obtained with probes, smoke and Schlieren imaging, falls about 20% short of predictions, mainly because the simulations ignore heat losses through glazing and side walls.
