Summary

DesignBuilder simulations of a typical low-rise apartment block in 6th of October city, Egypt, assess converting its existing service courts into solar chimneys. The retrofit brought the hottest southern zones, previously close to 37 °C, within thermal comfort limits, and raised average air speeds to 0.62–1.59 m/s on every floor, improving cross-ventilation without mechanical systems.
