Summary
A one-dimensional compressible flow model compares a conventional solar chimney power plant with a combined plant that also evaporates seawater under the collector to produce fresh water. Latent heat release lowers chimney air temperature, velocity and power output in the combined plant. However, a revenue analysis for Dalian, China, favours it for chimneys below about 445 m, a threshold set by local water and electricity prices.
