Summary
Thesis on buoyancy-driven airflow in solar chimneys for building ventilation. A transient scale analysis identifies three flow regimes governed by the Rayleigh number, each with its own mass flow behaviour. A small window-sized chimney with a tilted passive wall is proposed and tested numerically and in the lab, raising ventilation performance by suppressing reverse flow at the outlet.
