Summary

Scaling analysis, checked against numerical simulations, of laminar natural-convection airflow in a solar chimney whose vertical absorber wall receives a fixed heat flux. Depending on Rayleigh number, three flow regimes emerge, two of them conduction-dominated with no distinct thermal boundary layer, and scaling relations are derived for temperature, velocity and mass flow rate governing ventilation performance.
