Summary

A small pilot solar chimney power plant, about 3 m tall with a collector of the same diameter, was built to measure how absorber material and geometry affect airflow and heating. A 6 cm collector inlet gap worked best, and aluminium transferred heat better than iron. Air speed in the chimney peaked at 1.7 m/s, well above the speed measured with a shorter chimney.
