Summary

Investigates how ambient crosswind affects a floating solar chimney power plant, combining an outdoor pilot with an integrated solar collector and numerical simulations validated against its measurements. In wind, a tilting floating chimney, despite its reduced effective height, performs better than a rigid vertical concrete one because tip vortices no longer disrupt the updraft; an optimum tilt angle minimises wind losses for a given plant and wind speed.
