Summary

A solar chimney power plant is combined with photovoltaic panels submerged in a water pool, which cools the panels and yields distilled water. A mathematical model run with Jordanian weather data shows annual electricity about 45% above a standalone PV array and freshwater at about 1.6 US$ per cubic metre; taller chimneys and panels placed near the chimney raise overall utilization.
