Summary
Outdoor experiments compared a solar chimney fitted with a dimpled absorber plate against one with a smooth plate. Around midday on sunny days, the dimpled design transferred heat about 14% better, and its exit air was slightly warmer. It also moved air faster, peaking at roughly 0.72 m/s, compared with 0.57 m/s for the smooth version.
