Summary

Theoretical modelling of solar chimneys for naturally ventilating houses in North Africa, comparing a typical dwelling with and without a chimney. Adding a chimney can lower indoor temperature by up to about 5 °C; the best chimney wall thickness is around 0.1 m, with chimney area scaled to the dwelling's volume.
