Summary

Pairing a solar updraft tower with an air filter lets it clean polluted city air while producing electricity; CFD simulations combined with multi-objective optimization weigh power, filter performance and capital cost against filter position and plant geometry. Mounting the filter at the collector entrance yielded about 100 kW and roughly 90% filtration, at a lower cost per kilowatt than a mid-chimney filter.
