Summary

Examines how tall concrete towers for wind turbines and solar chimney plants respond to fluctuating wind loads. For prestressed turbine towers it covers repeated load cycles and material fatigue; for chimney towers it addresses natural vibration modes, stiffening rings and optimal tower geometry, with emphasis on the guide vanes at the collector entrance. Both are seen as promising energy options for Southern Africa.
