Summary

A MATLAB thermodynamic model driven by monthly weather data evaluates a 5 MW solar chimney plant for Canadian sites, with the collector laid on a mountain slope that doubles as the chimney and a short vertical stack housing the turbine. Such northern plants could yield about 85% of the output of comparable southern plants with flat collectors, at an overall efficiency just under 0.5%.
