Summary
Inclined passive solar chimneys attached to a single room in Egypt were investigated with a 3D CFD model, validated against experiments to within about 5%, and then optimized with a multi-objective genetic algorithm. Chimney width proved the dominant design parameter and height mattered little. The optimized design drove indoor air speeds up to about 0.5 m/s, enough to extend thermal comfort limits.
