Summary

Examines how passive ventilation in residential buildings can be made more energy-efficient, combining an analysis of current systems and climate factors with numerical modelling. Solar chimneys, wind catchers and hybrid schemes are found to boost natural air exchange and cut dependence on mechanical ventilation, though solar chimneys remain rarely used in multi-storey housing for lack of research and validated design methods.
