Summary
A large solar updraft tower is sized by treating incoming sunshine as random rather than steady, using probability statistics of irradiance and climate records for Mumbai, India. Changing tower height, collector size and the depth of heat-storage material beneath the absorber yields design curves for daily yields of about 136 to 945 kWh, with the generator examined at both full and half load.
