Summary
A theoretical model covering all pressure losses in a solar updraft power plant is used to assess how chimney stiffener design, collector roof height and roof support layout influence them. Kinetic energy lost at the chimney outlet makes up most of the total loss, losses at the collector entrance are negligible, and stiffeners designed for low drag, such as spokeless rings, sharply lower overall losses.
