Summary

Design of passive ventilation for an underground, unheated bath house in Western Pennsylvania used mainly on summer afternoons, driven by a tall solar chimney. A mathematical model estimates the buoyancy-driven airflow from solar absorption on the chimney's inner surface, wind effects on that flow are examined, and the chimney also supplies part of the facility's daylighting.
