Summary

An analytical model is developed for a hybrid setup in which condenser waste heat from a coal-fired plant preheats air entering a solar chimney collector used for dry cooling. A fitted expression gives the best turbine pressure drop, which grows with collector radius and irradiance up to critical limits. Applied to a 660 MW unit, the scheme beats two earlier designs.
