Summary

Simulations of airflow in the collector of a rooftop solar chimney model at the University of Arizona, using measured wall temperatures and inlet velocities with a high-order compact finite-difference solver. Stationary azimuthal disturbances driven by Rayleigh-Bénard-Poiseuille instability grow fastest and tend to merge downstream, while oblique waves grow more slowly; strong flow acceleration reduces growth further downstream.
