Summary

A hyperbolic, outward-flaring chimney is proposed for solar chimney power plants and optimised with a 2D CFD model, checked against measurements from a built prototype, by varying the ratio of flare radius to chimney height. Wider divergence steadily raised power output compared with a conventional straight chimney, with overall efficiency nearly quadrupling (up about 295%) for a 15 m divergence radius.
