Investigation of the performance parameters of a sloped collector solar chimney model – An adaptation for the North of Iraq Rizgar Bakr Weli; Soorkeu A. Atrooshi; Rudiger Schwarze Three-dimensional CFD simulations explore how ground slope, collector cover tilt and inlet height affect a solar chimney power plant built on hilly terrain near Erbil, northern Iraq. A ground slope of about 35° with a cover parallel to the ground works best and cuts the required chimney height by roughly a third. Inlet height matters little, and the pressure field puts the turbine inside the chimney.

Summary
Three-dimensional CFD simulations explore how ground slope, collector cover tilt and inlet height affect a solar chimney power plant built on hilly terrain near Erbil, northern Iraq. A ground slope of about 35° with a cover parallel to the ground works best and cuts the required chimney height by roughly a third. Inlet height matters little, and the pressure field puts the turbine inside the chimney.
