Summary

Two- and three-dimensional computational fluid dynamics are used to improve the shape of a sloped solar chimney for a two-story building, looking at how the angle and length of the inclined section affect ventilation on each floor. The best design is funnel-shaped, which limits vortices and turbulent losses, and it gives about 24% more natural ventilation than conventional geometries.
