Summary
Numerical simulations and a theoretical model examine how wind speed and direction affect airflow through a solar chimney serving a building. Head-on windward wind gives the best results, while most oblique leeward directions reduce flow, and larger windows increase it. A critical wind speed, beyond which wind rather than sunshine drives the flow, rises with solar radiation, from about 0.65 to 1.55 m/s.
