Summary

Examines floating solar chimneys, buoyant lightweight towers proposed as a cheap substitute for concrete ones, combined with a plastic-covered greenhouse that also limits dust intrusion in deserts. A scale analysis based on construction costs and generation estimates indicates that towers about 650 m tall could produce electricity at roughly 45 USD/MWh, making large desert installations attractive.
