Summary

Laboratory tests on a small solar chimney power plant prototype in Isparta, Turkey, with a 4.2 m tower, compare several thermal storage options beneath the collector. Fitting a diffuser improved output by cutting turbulence, and a crushed gravel floor proved the most effective storage, pushing collector efficiency to about 90%. Measurements matched theoretical predictions and earlier published results.
