Summary
Experiments on the collector of a solar chimney power plant compare two ways of storing heat: a pebble bed alone, and black-surfaced water tubes combined with pebbles. Pebbles raised the temperature rise of the air across the collector, while the tube-and-pebble arrangement gave hotter air and better collector efficiency. Different pebble bed heights were tested to find the best one.
