Summary

Tests on a small inclined solar chimney power plant model with a south-facing collector reveal that both the speed and the bearing of ambient wind matter a great deal. Air arriving from the south helps, whereas easterly, westerly and, more mildly, northerly flow hurts; faster wind raises heat leakage to the surroundings. Wind-breaking guide vanes at the collector entrance are suggested for conventional plants.
