Summary

Transient COMSOL simulations with two-way fluid–structure coupling compare a planar solar chimney with and without an elastic passive vortex generator. The generator's natural vibration sheds moving vortices that mix the flow and thin the thermal boundary layer. This raises the air temperature rise at the outlet by up to 300% and lowers the temperature of the uniformly heated absorber by over 50%.
