Summary
Examines whether a free-standing, self-maintaining rising whirl of air could replace the physical tower of a solar updraft plant, gathering moist heated air near the surface above the turbines. An idealised analytical description of such a vortex is derived and solved numerically for a representative configuration, treating the whirl as one stage of a thermodynamic loop resembling a Brayton process under gravity.
