Efficient Axial Flow Turbine for Solar Chimney Walid M. A. Elmagid; Istvan Keppler; Ildiko Molnar A turbine for solar chimney power plants is designed by adapting aerodynamic optimisation methods for diffuser-equipped wind turbines. A flow model of the chimney, coupled with an iterative blade element solution, sets blade chord and twist distributions. The model agrees well with Manzanares prototype measurements, and the resulting design could raise power output by about 15%.

Summary
A turbine for solar chimney power plants is designed by adapting aerodynamic optimisation methods for diffuser-equipped wind turbines. A flow model of the chimney, coupled with an iterative blade element solution, sets blade chord and twist distributions. The model agrees well with Manzanares prototype measurements, and the resulting design could raise power output by about 15%.
