Summary

Three-dimensional CFD simulations, validated against published experimental and numerical data, examine how a wall-mounted solar chimney affects airflow and temperatures inside a room. Whether the chimney flow is laminar or turbulent depends more on inlet size than on air-gap width. A proposed modified Rayleigh number that combines both reliably predicts the switch to turbulence, and possible design improvements are discussed.
