Summary

Axisymmetric CFD simulations of a solar chimney power plant modelled on the Manzanares prototype, validated against its measured data, show that adding a soil heat-storage layer under the collector strengthens the updraft to about 17.5 m/s. Taller towers and wider collectors raise power potential, and higher solar irradiance roughly doubles the inlet velocity, to about 22 m/s.
